Jr. Ambassador Trip to Asahikawa

Each year in early June, a select group of ten junior ambassadors from grades 8 through sophomore year, representing D87, and Unit 5, and the ISU Lab Schools embark on an exciting ten-day journey to Asahikawa, Japan. This enriching trip offers these students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Japanese culture and stay with a host family who will provide a warm and authentic experience. During their visit, the ambassadors engage in various activities, including attending a local school, climbing a picturesque mountain, and marveling at the stunning blue lake of Asahikawa. Beyond these highlights, the trip includes a range of cultural and educational experiences designed to broaden their global perspective and deepen their understanding of the vibrant community they are visiting.

Asahikawa students visit Bloomington Normal

Every year, students from Asahikawa, Japan, visit Bloomington-Normal, creating a vibrant cultural exchange between the two communities. These students stay with local host families to experience American life first hand. Their visit is filled with opportunities to engage with the local culture, participate in community events, and explore the region’s landmarks. This immersive experience not only broadens their understanding of American traditions but also fosters lasting friendships and mutual respect between the young people of Asahikawa and Bloomington-Normal
